Q – What is the Whirlybird Ember Guard?

A – It’s a mesh guard designed to stop bushfire embers from entering your roof space via your whirlybird roof vent.

Q – What sized whirlybird do I have? How to I measure it?

A – The vast majority of whirlybirds have an internal throat size of 300mm, with the slightly larger whirlybirds usually being 350mm The smaller 250mm whirlybirds tend to have the top section made from durable plastics. It is more than likely it’s one these three sizes. If it is made with all metal construction then it will usually be a 300mm whirlybird or possibly a 350mm. To check the size,  simply measure the inside diameter of the throat section of your whirlybird.

Q – What sizes do you supply?

A- We have three sizes available to fit whirlybirds with an internal diameter of 350mm, 300mm and 250mm.

Q – Will it change the look of my whirlybird?

A – The guard is placed inside the whirlybird so it will not change the external appearance.

Q – Will it affect the airflow of my whirlybird?

A – The guard will not have a noticeable impact on the function of your whirlybird.

Q – Is there other sizes of guards available?

A – We can make any custom diameter guard, just contact us with the details.

Q – Does the mesh conform to the Australian Standards AS 3959?

A – Yes, the mesh conforms to the AS 3959 recommendations for mesh used as ember guards on homes in bushfire prone areas.

Q – If the guard does not fit my whirlybird do I get a refund?

A – Yes, just post the guard back with the original packaging and we will refund the purchase cost.

Q – What is the guard made of?

A – Whirlybird Ember Guards are made of corrosive resistant, 304 grade stainless steel.

Q – Are they easy to clean?

A – Yes, as you do not need to fasten the guards to your roof vent it is simple to remove any built up leaf matter.
